FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
About classes and dancing
DO I NEED A PARTNER TO SIGN UP?
No, you don’t: you are welcome to bring a partner with you, but it’s not required: we make sure that all partnerwork classes have a good leader/follower ratio with limited spots so everyone gets to dance all the time!
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? AND WHICH SHOES?
The ideal attire is something comfortable, stretchy and in general easy to move in. For shoes, preferably dance shoes; if you don’t yet have any, wear sneaks/flats or even boots that are not grippy, so you can spin better without damaging your knees/joints.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT CLASS FOR ME?
Check the class description, where there is an estimate of the experience needed to get the most out of it. Remember that everyone’s learning curve is different, and the amount of practice, social dancing, dedication and previous dancing experiences all play a role. If you plan to practice outside the classroom, you can expect to progress quicker than the average student; if you only want to dance once pr. week, it’s better to take an easier class to avoid frustration and have more fun.
WHEN SHOULD I MOVE TO THE NEXT LEVEL?
We recommend to re-take the same class until you are mastering the techniques of the class you just took, without rushing through the levels: remember that knowing fewer, but very well executed combinations and footwork, is much better then having lots of moves, but done incorrectly (and your dance partners know that too!).
NEW TO THE SCHOOL?
Are taking your first class at CSA and have previous salsa/bachata experience from other schools? It is a good idea to take a lower level than you were taking somewhere else, to give yourself some time to get used to how the classes work and catch up on some technical differences.
ARE THERE ANY AGE REQUIREMENTS IN THE CLASSES?
Our group classes are for all ages! Salsa & bachata are social dances where everyone is welcome, regardless of the age. The only exception are our youth classes, for young adults between 15 and 29 years (see class description).
I AM STILL NOT SURE ABOUT WHAT CLASS TO TAKE.
No worries: you are always welcome to contact us, so we can help you find the best solution for you. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
