Salsa Classes Copenhagen

"I left salsa in the worst mood," said no one, EVER.

Welcome to salsa

Salsa is joy, warmth and rhythms that get hold of you. Salsa is a passion – and you will want more! Whatever your age, and whether or not you have a dance partner: come and join our big dance family.

Salsa as we know it today is a blend of Caribbean rhythms and dances – mainly from Cuba and Puerto Rico – with deep roots in Afro-Cuban rhythm. Dance forms such as son, cha-cha-cha and mambo reached the US in the 1960s and 1970s, where the music took on elements of jazz and blues among others. The word “salsa” was coined as an umbrella term gathering all the different styles and influences.

In the 1980s professional teaching methods and standardised combinations emerged, and dance schools began teaching salsa, which had originally been a folk dance. It has kept evolving ever since, with new ways of dancing and interpreting the music.

Today salsa divides into several styles: Cuban salsa (“casino” in Cuba), L.A. style (On 1), New York style (On 2), Colombian salsa and more. Whichever style you focus on, it is worth learning as many as you can, so you can dance with everyone and enjoy all of salsa's nuances. At CSA we teach mainly Cuban salsa and L.A. style, with a fusion of techniques from the others.
